Superb shots Rob especially in windy conditions. The wind can have it's advantages though in that it can blow the birds to one particular side of the reservoir (usually opposite to where I'm standing !) and the birds can "stall" a little flying into the wind.
The bottom pic really is excellent, great light. Autofocus and black terns over water just do not go, not even on an expensive camera ! the lack of contrast, small size and fast movement are a killer. As for manual, I admire that, I am far too lazy !!

These were so difficult to shoot,auto focus couldn't cope with the windy conditions and the speed which they traveled so had to rely on manual.
