Didn't quite make the Glamorgan year record - finished on 221 for Glamorgan (2 short), 194 East Glam (equalling record without trying, many sitters missed), 191 West Glam, 169 Bridgend, 159 Swansea, 146 Neath Port Talbot.
For those of you who may be interested in having a go, I spent £1230 and drove 8,630 miles through the year.
It can be done in future as this year i missed - Smew, White Fronted Goose, Sooty Shearwater, Gyr Falcon, Pomarine Skua, Glaucous Gull, Sabine's Gull as well as Black Throated Thrush, Yellow Browed Warbler, Wryneck, Marsh Warbler. Some birds didn't turn up this year like Iceland Gull, Little Auk, Ring-billed Gull & Twite.
Finally birds not counted - Ring Necked Parakeet (cat E), Egyptian Goose (cat E) & Long Tailed Skua (rejected by GRC).
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all and thanks for all those phone calls.

Superb effort Mart! I tried very hard to get you a bird nearer, but fell short. May have a go myself one day..., Happy New Year for later! Mat
A very gallant try Martyn. As you say a lot of species were seen by other obs and others just didn't appear at all this year. However your KP at Whiteford must rank as the find of your year - a bird no one would have seen and the county would have lost but for your year-list. Well done to you.
nice try mart. as i said this bloody work lark gets in the way of everything, better luck next time.
Top effort. The current record holders are argubly two of the biggest stringers in the county so your efforts to record an honest and true year list total is admirble. I spent yesterday with one of them and he pleaded with me to not dish the dirt on their shoddy and frankly dishonest attempts. When you remove all the dodgy ducks and the ones stolen from a 'well known' collection you'll probably find yourself 'the champ'. I'll have a word with CR and get ring-necked parkeet on to the list! PS Did you see red-crested pochard??
Nice one Martyn, atleast you got off your arse and did some real birding, unlike many of the rest of us.
Yes Randal - i counted the cosmeston bird - maybe a bit controversial, but as the very cold weather at the time displaced the wiltshire/gloucester population all over the south-west & Wales, I came to the conclusion that it was countable. You may hold it against me.
I did try and get the GRC to accept Ring Necked Parakeet, Egyptian Goose & Cape Shelduck but they weren't having any of it - damn those serious folk
What about the Llynfi Eagle owl Mart? We know it is not ringed...
... An admirable effort mate.
RESPECT!!
Top Man...fantastic effort Mart
