I have looked there once this week but did not see a Bittern. You may be referring to Nigel Garside who has 2 small black terriers. Was planning to have a look tonight to see if anyting comes in to roost but lack the motivation these days for serious local birdfinding. Birding round here is too dull ! Did however see the Bewicks this morning and for the lazier types like me would mention that they can be seen from the road. No need to get out of the car.

Thats not Nigel then in which case I would regard the record as suspect. However I understand one of the wildfowlers reported flushing a Bittern from Rumney Great Wharf the other day. Will have a look this afternoon if not raining.

Checked late yesterday afternoon as promised and no sign of Bittern, nor did any Egrets come in to roost. In actual fact the snow and ice have flattened a lot of the reeds and it would not be easy for even a Bittern to hide.
