Undisclosed Site
one for Randal s "specialist subject", followed trail from foxholes to a latrine , only footprints around seem too small for badger, but always hoping !
Hi Tiger, greetings from the Yorkshire Wolds. Apologies for changing the post's Title last night but didn't have time to reply and look properly. Been out undertaking nocturnal bird surveys, chasing long-eared owls, golden plover and lapwings around in the dark. All good fun! Without giving the poo a good prod, smell and size comparison it's not always easy from just a pic. Where as it looks like badger scat in a latrine, it could well be fox that's been feasting on berries and inverts rather than it's usual diet that would have produced the more classic grey, thin scat with a tapered end, full of fur and bone. If the latrine is close to the entrance it's more likely to be badger, as foxes don't 'shit in their own back garden', so to speak, as this attracts unwanted interest in the den. Any fresh bedding left near the hole entrance? Sorry can't be of more help, but keep the shit coming!
that s inviting an unwanted comment from some "twisted" minds ? I would say it was about 2o metres from the holes & the trail ended there, size equivalent to ordering mini pork sausages from the butcher, no doubt will be thinking about this next time I go, I have been feeding them well of late ! (thanks for your comments)
Am i right to say that foxes don't use latrines so i suggest that it's badger as they like to dig latrines near and far from their setts foxes are like dogs shit anywhere.
tiger the evidence is in the soil mate grab a hand full of soil outside sett/den and check for hair badger's hair 3/4 white 1/4 black with a tiny white tip foxes are ginger pretty obvious i know but when they excavate the contents this is the best way to tell what's using it, although foxes will use the same sett as a badger, hope this is helpful
