Fantasy Birding at the Wharf

Two coots on the pool, a few mipits and a small flock of goldfinch were the soaring highlights of a wander over the 'Yank magnet' that is Lamby Tip around high-tide this afternoon. No sign of the pectoral sandpiper found there on Friday. That makes two pec sands there this year alone....what chances of a third I wonder?

The lack of a pec sand was only slightly compensated for by discovering a previously undescribed to science Peruvian flowerpecker (1st winter male) feeding on the dead remains of a Labrador Duck at Lamby Lake. I managed to examine the carcass and from the notching on the breastbone I was able to identify that the culprit was almost certainly a second calendar year Lesser Kestrel (probably a male). Tomorrow I'm going to wander along RGW so look out.
