I went back later Rich and stood watching it sat up in the reeds looking wet and miserable in the rain,as soon as the rain stopped it flew off towards the sea(c 1.00pm ish)i spent another hour searching with others and as far as i know it wasn't refound.
Mitch - I was yelling at you as you were walking back towards it - during the rain. I was at the lighthouse trying to phone you but your mobile was off. There were at least 10 people watching it when I left it - one young lad got within the path width of it and it just ignored him.
I thought i heard someone but couldn't see anyone, jeeze my hearing and eyesight needs sorting. My phone is rarely off but was on this occasion, unintentionally.
Yes I was earlier trying to ring you to say that the bird had found an ants nest and wasn't going anywhere until it had eaten its fill of whatever - its tongue was flashing in and out and it was shaking ants off its feathers.
