What is all the fuss about tape luring? I have no problem with it at all,so long as it is used responsibly and with discretion.I would be shocked if any of the 'bird tour' companies were to say they never use it (we know at least one has used them in the past,as we had it first-hand,straight from the horses mouth,as it were),most of the more successful 'toggers use them and no end of the more successful birders use them. Without them we might all miss no end of birds. In my opinion you would not have been 'Stooping so low' in using tapes Jeff. The chances are, anyone who would criticise you for using them, would most likely be a fucking hypocrite mate.

No fuss Nige on my part,my remark was very "tongue in cheek",I've got something like 300 bird songs/calls on my iPhone which I've used in the past and will continue to use as I to do not see anything wrong with the practice when used discreetly and sensibly.
I have been in the company of professional guides when abroad who will "tape lure" to ensure that the paying customer gets to see a particular bird.

Slap keep your wig on, don't jump to an essay long reply just because I typed in two words.
If I had gone into an in depth post slagging off tape luring fair play but I didn't so don't assume that I don't use it myself when I need too.

To the purist tape luring is not appropriate at any time - however tape luring of breeding birds, wintering birds in hard times, and schedule one - whether in this country or rares abroad should rightly be frowned upon.
The same applies to 'pushy' photographers without 'field craft'.
Not that this applies to anyone that I know - well I don't think so!

Very nice Jeff! As always with getting good shots, you need a certain amount of luck. Like being in the right place at the right time, with good light.....
