Heliport Bay

Highlights of a prolonged watch today (ahem)from dawn till 2pm included 2 rather noisy arctic terns down channel, an immaculate adult MED GULL (thwack, thwack), 50 black-tailed godwit and my first pintail and knot of the autumn/ winter at the mouth of the Rhymney (35 & 50 respectively). Passerines in the scrub around me included 3 redwing and a chiffy. Occasional small fluries of hirundunes all heading west.
A very fresh clouded yellow, my first and only record of the year, emerged around midday and was last seen feeding on hawkweed in the heliport itself. Nice bit of timber on the shoreline going to waste (mental note; take the husky with me next time).
