Jeff, this is how you do it from now on. Not bad Wader. Considering all the kit you've got and the light, you probably should have done a lot better. The only thing you've nailed on these shots is the shrike to that branch. You disgusting bastard, you're everything that's currently wrong with bird photography in the world. Bastard. Out of curiosity what size nails did you use? Panel Pins or Clout Nails? Understand now Jeff? Think like a bastard, act like a bastard.
Totally agree Rob, I had too many ruined br a twig or blade of dry grass! Brilliant bird though, and if anyone is thinking of going, well worth the effort.
Much easier to use liming sticks, they never escape those! Which reminds me of having to kill a Masked Shrike followed by a Wryneck in Cyprus one spring! Stuck to a liming stick.I left the area for the rest of the trip, which paid off by findind 6 Trumpeter Finches and a Hooded Wheatear elsewhere! Great birding in spring apart from the trapping!!
Randal mentioned earlier over a phone call that the Shrike had a tick on it`s throat, well, I think you were right, but it has thankfully dropped off. That would really have been a downer, getting great shots of a bird with a tick and a twig across the throat!
Anybody notice that the bird hasn't been seen since "The Wader" paid his visit !! The flushing bastard !!!! (P.S Is this the sort of thing you're looking for Nige !)
