Mitch, had an email from Andy Rouse to say that he also saw a male Hen Harrier and 3 Short eared Owls at CCR and towards the sluice today. Looks like it is a bumper year this year for SEOs. Sooner or later they will be nailed by somebody!
I was there all afternoon Steve,i also saw A Rouse no doubt he had better luck than me.It just didn't happen yesterday, they were either flying in to the sun or too far etc etc i'll be having another go Thurs if it's bright.Shame about that bloody Harrier,i would have loved to nailed that one.
Hi Mitch, I saw you yesterday and someone else already set up so I didn't want to spoil your shots. So I stayed low on the other side of the bank just watching and trying to get a handle on the behaviour. I saw that Marsh Harrier fly in the background behind you when I was trying to see if you were wildfowler or tog on my video!
And no I got nothing, no bloody trannie either and I had my stillettos with me too.
Hope to visit Saturday weather permitting and don't mind spending the day there to get some good shots if anyone else fancies ?
Hi Jeff, they seem to appear at about 2.00pm and hunt all along the wharf, the best thing to do is find a quiet spot and sit it out, sooner or later they will pass.I had 4 birds just sitting out in the marsh yesterday, obviously too far for any shots.Good luck!
Hi! Hammer boy, there will surely be plenty of other opportunities to nail these,so far it's been an excellent winter for them,i can't wait to have a bit of Snow or Hoare frost in the background that would be Superb. p.s Stilettos are no good this time of year ,muds too soft.
note for Jeff, had a nice 4 hours at Aust Wharf y day, SEO came out further back up the road at 13 55 for 10 mins so missed the "close" shots, re-appeared across the marsh an hour or so later & gave good views on & off till about 16 00, but too far away for decent shots, got several but not good enough to go on here, must try RGW one a/noon
See you there Saturday then Cliff !!
