Welcome Back

I once received a text that said 'senior birders across the county blame Cardiff birders for all that's wrong in this county'. I recall the very same individual once telling me that he thought the original CBC blog was 'disgusting' and described the contributors to it as 'immature'. I even once received the now infamous text describing all the Cardiff birders as 'bastards'. Ever get the feeling your misunderstood?

I considered the first text and thought that it was highly unlikely that Cardiff birders were responsible for global warming and the effects this has had on bird populations across the county. I was also pretty sure that widespread habitat loss and pollution across the region was also not down to 'the bastards'. I did once reverse over a grass verge, and I did cut down the trees in my back garden (they were non-natives anyway), but all in all, I'm almost positive this has had nothing to do with the increasing number of bird species appearing on the lists of high and medium conservation concern in East Glamorgan. I've consulted several other Cardiff birders (and if anyone knows any differently then I stand corrected) but again, I'm almost positive that Cardiff birders were neither responsible for the demise in the coal and steel industries across South Wales nor 9-11. None of us can fly a Stuka and we've never invaded Poland in a tank. Neither have we been to Bopal or Chernobyl, caused a tsunami or an eartquake. All things considered I eventually came to the conclusion that if 'senior' birders in the county thought this then 'senior' birders were essentially a bit dim.

As for the 'disgusting' comment; I can only apologise for the potty mouthed and immature postings that were mostly down to one of two individuals ('they're so immature'). Don't worry HIB, we'll endeavour to keep Seymour, Wader and Slapster under tighter control this time round. You'll also be pleased to know that Dufus has left the building so you won't be subjected to the rantings of his multiple personalities.

As for 'the bastards' text. It was a fair point and well deserved. Sometimes, when the cap fits you just have to wear it......anyway, welcome back to the Cardiff Bird Club. Spiritual home of the sort of riff-raff and all that's wrong in the county of Glamorganshire you've come to expect.

PS Just one new rule to be mindful of. All comments regarding photographs should be generally abusive, mean spirited and frankly spiteful. No longer will this blog tolerate the repeated comment 'great shots'/ 'great set of pictures'/ 'brilliant' or any other such niceity etc.
Remember, this is a blog for bastards. Think like a bastard. Behave like a bastard (I've demonstrated on the Wader's shots of the shrike (see post below).

hey Randal, I added 2 more images to my Forest Farm trip this am & checked they were on OK but some "Bastard" seems to have removed them, I blame MI5 ! PS : sorry they were not "rarities" .

Tiger. You lost us the quiz last night. It's all your fault. What's Margaret going to do now without any chocolates for Christmas this year. I suppose you'll resort to the usual tangerine and a stick for presents again!

With regard your picture of a kingfisher and a helicopter. The editorial team here at CBC 1 felt that your previous 3 efforts of the same bird would probably suffice on this occasion. Much as we love seeing hundreds of pictures of the same out of focus, generally over exposed and badly composed bird, the shot of the helicopter tipped me over the edge. This tough new editorial policy stands for everyone.

Yes, Tiger, if concentrated on the quiz questions and less on Sacha's chest we might have won!
