I must admit when you txted me to say you'd "nailed it" I was expecting something a little bit special, this is just not up to your usual standard Steve, please pull your finger out and trade in that 1D for something tidy like an Olympus Trip !!
.....only kidding ! That is an absolutely superb image Steve, fair play, credit when it's due, very well done. At the end of a cold, miserable day that's the kind of image that gets you out the next time.
Jeff, spending the day at the Barry Owl and Hawk Centre (or even the Hawk and Owl Centre)is nothing to crow about. As Wader demontrates, any cock can take a decent shot when faced with an owl dosed out on temazepam. I thought a vole on a string was going some; dosing the vole with a sedative sinks to new lowes, even for him. Frankly, I'm disgusted and intend to write to someone very important.
I didn't twig, the devious bastard ! So that's why you can't see it's feet, nice job they've done of tucking the jesses out of sight,I'm with you on this one Randall.
boys boys boys when is this gonna stop okay brilliant photo, but surely the seo are going to get pissed off with lots of big lens birders inching closer to try and get a better photo than his previous one, i know you mean well but lets think about the birds for once before its too late. Birders on the other channel are even asking where the birds are because they would like a photo and it only takes one idiot with no field craft to spoil it for everyone. Sorry about the rant but i feel some one has to say something
Well said Badger but I think you are wasting your breath, the only time these Owls will get some peace is when they fcuk off back to where they came from. Not only that , who wants to see hundreds of Owl, wheatear, you name it , phots
I, and a few others have spent many hours sitting as still as possible waiting for the Owls to come to us. We are relying on birders and a few numpties to flush the birds our way, it is happening again and again. It`s not the regular `birders with cameras` that are disturbing them it`s birders. Visiting birders are happy to see so many Owls together, the novelty is beginning to wear off! They will soon be left alone to roost in piece. Myself , Mitch and Mic Clark sat, and waited all morning, not moving from the spot; and only I edged closer. The bird even dozed off and preened, not bothered by my presence. One guy even approached me for a chat, flushing Egret and Owls.!
Misty, if there weren`t any photos it would be a pretty boring blog! We have to keep a max of 3 pics per post. How come you haven`t moaned about the amount of Tranny photo`s?
For the record the MC referred to is not me. Agree that Owls should be left in peace for a bit. Perhaps one of you could spare a few minutes to look for the Lapland Bunting which only the Portly Leader and myself have seen.
Unfortunately birders and others who read these blogs and see these stunning pictures think that they too can pop down and in a half hour walk/flush get similar results. They don't realise that it takes hours of patience, days of failure, lying in cold and muddy ditches with photo equipment costing thousands of pounds to maybe get one good shot. I doubt that many birders have had scope views as good as Steve's latest effort.
"Not to mention stiff necks, cramped legs and sore Arses."...... I think you will find that these conditions are due more to the attention paid to said tranny more than anything else.
change of venue may be an idea, there are other places in the Metropolis where the above - mentioned "conditions" can be experienced - time to look for Hawfinches perhaps ?
