Green Point, Rhymney Estuary
Dispersal from the high tide roost at green point and further along at RGW produced 3,000 dunlin, 1,100 redshank, 125 knot and 25 grey plover. Duck number are well down at the estuary mouth with only 40 shovelor, 25 pintail and a winter low of only 57 shelduck. Gull numbers built up quickly with the falling tide, but I failed dismally to connect with a white-winger. A peregrine played havoc with the waders around the roosts either side of high tide before finally managing to score with a hapless dunlin with which it then headed into ABP Cardiff to consume.
