scanned from 50 yr-old slide, at Clumber Pk Notts, Marsh Tit showing pale markings on mandible (wing highlight caused by flash) I have always associated Marsh with open parkland & Willow with wet woodland/Willow Carr, other 2 shots illustrate that Willow excavates its own nest in rotting stumps - sorry about these - I m done now !

Marsh Tit - do Marsh Tits never excavate holes?
No, they use pre-existing holes. Willow excavate their own holes (normally). I put a load of boxes for willow tit up at a site in north glam two years ago that I stuffed with a woodcrete mix then tied them to a pre-existing tree stump. One was excavated this year but failed at the nesting stage!
Surely this is Roseate Tit!
some of us cant afford a decent scanner !
