attached pic from compact camera of Clive, son of Rhiwbina Shepherd on hol, thought to be Spoon-billed sandpiper, if so, would be 1 st for Greece, cant do much with the image but, if enlarged, looks promising structure/plumage, in particular note shadow of bill on sand

I have played around with the image without any success. When darkened the shadow does give a better idea of the bill! The bill actually does look interesting.
I think it would also probably show the third toe which is absent in sanderling. Altogether interesting!
When Clive took this photo he had said it was the odd bill shape being the reason for taking a shot.
I have just installed photoshop 26 and when I clicked on the call it sounded like a Culew!!!
If that's a Spoon-billed Sandpiper then my Glamorgan list has just gone up by one. Saw a load running around on Sker beach last year.
I think its a Sanderling with a deformed bill. The good news is you can now see Spoon-billed Sandpiper at Slimbridge & save money on a trip to the far east.
CHEAT !!!
Looks good for Shadow-Billed Sandpiper to me.
