Hendre lake Smew

Not present when I looked today at about 09.00 and Rob was already there not having seen it. Another birder also reported negative. Someone put in a report to RBA at 09.35 saying it was there. Anyone know who saw it ?
Wish I'd gone for the B N Grebe now.

Snipe here. Indeed it was. When I arrived I met someone who knows you Maurice [Adrian Plant], who said it seemed to have gone. I walked along to the viewpoint with him and glanced across to the island and it appeared in a group of mallard. This was around midday. Still there when I left. It seems to like following Mallards around. As I said on the other channel it can seem to vanish into thin air on long dives.

Defintely there on Monday 13th Feb around 1.30pm. Difficult to see at first and it keeps diving because the bh gulls are mobbing it a lot and trying to rob it of whatever it's catching. Great views from the end of the spit opposite the elevated viewing point. Iain Stuart
