Cardiff's Premier Birder is reporting that FD was present at first light...........how on earth did you miss it Squirrel?
Because along with the rest of the birding world either I'm totally imcompetant or not given to claiming rarities in the dark...! Might be worth pointing out to Cardiff's premier birder that in over 35 years of birding at the Res I have noticed Aythya ducks seldom leave the Res during daylight hours so had it been there at dawn, as apparently claimed, I'm amazed it wasn't there when I arrived along with Gareth Stamp and one other birder at 7 a.m. Seems rather a lot of Cardiff's premier birder's claims mysteriously vanish into thin air shortly after dawn...that's the sort of pattern that would normally arouse suspicions of records committees.
