It's feeding young so the odds of seeing them out and about are greatly increased
I did consider erecting a net, to which it would probably have then been exausted hanging around for half an hour then stuffed in a bag for 15 mins, probably with a chiffy , then pulled it out and shoved a ring on it. Then photographed it !!!
The birds were nesting 6 ft from the footpath on the Deer Park at Martins Haven. I was looking for the R C Starling at the time. A Linnet was feeding on the path very close when I noticed 2 Groppers. I managed a few shots but the light was poor. I then lost them but realized they were taking food to feed young about 15 yards away. What was I supposed to do, run away!! I took a few more shots then moved back. Made my way out to Wooltack and returned again for a few more, then moved back. I could have had better but had to get back , we were leaving to come home.
Not all photographers are twats! some of us care about the welfare of the bird. Not all ringers are twats either! just for the record.
Just to say that by 8.30 it was like a pop festival. The car park for Skomer was full with the overflow field filling up.There was an almost continuous line of people walking to the point. One of the birds was just flying straight in so photographing that one would have been impossible!

It's clearly waiting for you to bugger off so it can get back to feeding it's chicks. I hope it didn't have to wait too long.

that's a Great White sized bite there Steve;-)
Yes, I fell for that one.
No particular offence intended, I just thought I'd judged the tone correctly in keeping with the accepted conventions.
Will clearly need to keep lurking a bit longer before hazarding any more comments.
