Magnolia Warbler trivia

Yesterday's mega on Fair Isle will no doubt stir memories of Britain's first Magnolia Warbler in Barnaby Lane, St Agnes, Scilly on 27th and 28th Sep 1981. Interestingly, the Scilly bird was found by Shane Enright, who birded Glamorgan for several years in the late 1970s whilst a student at University College Cardiff. Despite being present for two days, the bird was more or less inaccessible to birders other than those fortunate to be staying on Scilly at the time, such were the difficulties in getting to the islands especially on Sundays back then. Amongst the lucky souls, however, was another one of Glamorgan's own, the late Ken Lloyd.

Remember Shane. Wonder what happened to him. A few days after the Magnolia I was on Scillies and heard it described by an American couple as 'a junk bird'.

Have banged a load of cock, I expect Shane ended up buggered to death on the floor of some seedy Bangkok appartment...I know the finder of this bird too and will have to listen to the tale of its discovery in a few days time while trying not to appear gripped off.
Hot-off-the-press news regarding the W-r Sand??!?

Seymour, just out of interest, exactly how many have you banged?

As for a w-r sand on rgw, nothing surprises me less.

Hilarious "typo" Randal! None, apart from my own I'm glad to say!
