White-beaked Dolphin trip, Lyme Bay 2012

Fantastic day which was as you can see from the photo`s a huge success.
Big thanks to Jeff`s Taxi`s who by risking our lives made sure we arrived in plenty of time for the boat.
Thanks also go to Sharp- eyed Bevan for picking up the first pod.
And Richard Minke Smith for the entertainment!
Arrangements were made by Steve Bird with Tom Brereton and Marinelife.
Hopefully next year we could charter the boat which is I think insured to carry 12.
I would imagine that bookings would have to be made early as the boat is also chartered fo divers etc.and of course weather dependant!

Trip list.

10 + White-beaked Dolphin including 1 calf. Assuming that all other sightings were from the same pod.
Balearic Shearwater, 1 seen by Tom Bereton amongst a Trawler flock. 2 very probably seen in strong light.
Manx Shearwater. A steady trickle throughout the day.
1 Sooty Shearwater also around a trawler.
Storm Petrels. 15.
Arctic Skua 1.
Great Skuas. 30 + mostly behind Trawlers.
Gannets, Plentiful with great photo opportunities sat on the sea around trawlers.
Fulmar. Just a few.
Guillimot. About 10 winter plumage birds.
Common Scoter. 5
Arctic Tern 1. Also Comics 6. Terns feeding around the beach on return.
1 Sabine`s Gull.

This dolphin is the female with a characteristic rectangular patch at the base of the dorsal fin - seen with a calf/juv - the other mother has two notches in the dorsal fin - the one with the small calf.

Surely it's a female Minke Whale?
