Heart attack stuff. Who the

Who's Barry Hines? Shame on you Maurice! tut! He's only the man responsible for one of the best films ever made 'Kes'

MauriceC said...

Remember the film but did not know the guy's name.

Slaphead said...

he wrote 'A kestrel for a knave' and it was adapted for film.

Phil B said...

The young lad with the Kestrel was Billy Casper I recall.
By the way Tiger, the last time I saw you cremate breakfast on Scilly many moons ago you left the frying pan on the stove and set fire to it!

MITCH said...

Payed for by the Americans but flopped because they couldn't understand the Barnsley accent.By the way the caning scene was real, and the kids were payed an extra 10 shillings for it.

Where was the photo taken Mitch? There's a bloke near Tonypandy keeps BoPs for show and bird scaring? Think he's got a frogmouth.

MITCH said...

That's the guy,he said he was from Tonypandy but refused to give his address due to break ins! Do i look dodgy?

Slaphead said...

you look a bit camp in that jacket.

The guy with the Frogmouth, and also Black Kite, yankee Kes, Steppe Eagle, a Scops Owl sp and a couple of other things, had a stall at the Xmas food festival in Roald Dahl Plas last weekend. Can't remember what his outfit is called now.

John Wilson said...

Doh! Just twigged - that pic was taken at Roald Dahl Plas wasn't it?

Phil B said...

Yes, he keeps these in avaries in his back garden. Uses them for exhibitions and pigeon scaring. Lists his birds on a web site.

Steve Hinton said...

Is it true he lost a few Gyr Falcons a few years back?

Slaphead said...

You know what Steve, I think you are quite correct, about this time of the year too if memory serves me right.222

...you'd be surprised what's hidden in some folks' sheds! I've seen Snowy Owl, Eagle Owl and American Kestrel to name a few during my inspections in work, I kid you not.

There's an eagle owl in an aviary in a garden in the Heath right next to the hospital. Along with Long-eared owl, scops owl and a few more besides.
When I worked in Caithness there was a bloke with the actual 'hedwig' from the Harry Potter films in his aviary. He must have made a fortune from him. Of course I only found this out after the contents of my bowels had emptied when it flew past me at Broubster Leans......followed shortly after by the bloke in his car chasing it after it as it had escaped (again).

We even had a puffin on the Farnes in a box which we hand-reared.

Though the best one I've heard about is the guy who used to keep an Ivory Gull near Gileston back in the 1990s; that was until it escaped.

As for the Gyr falcon it's a well known fact that only losers and low listers actually think that that bird was out of a cage.

Slaphead said...

not one person mentioned cage, but quite a few mentioned jesses,do the math.
