Yes, I should've thought about that I guess. I'm no expert on imm. Hummers but thought Rufous always showed some rufous on the flanks until I just flicked through google images - live and learn. It wasn't a doubt as much as a question Nige.

Ruby-throats Nige?
If they are ruby's then they are around 1000 miles out of their range,these were shot in Seattle.
I would have expected Rufous Hummingbird to show at least a hint of Rufous ! That looks more like something like Anna's Hummingbird?

Having done a little research I.agree with Alex's suggestion of Anna's.
Just had a look at this and my vote would also go to Anna's.
