We await the article with interest. Of course it will say something along the lines of .... For a record of this significance and magnitude it is vital that all the key features can hold up to full and proper analysis and on this occasion and in view of the difficulties in clarifying some of the finite detail from the photographic evidence available the committee felt that the record fell just short of the required standard for an extinct bird to be admitted to the British List. Whilst the ultimate decision to list the record as Not Proven will be disappointing to some the Committee would like to point out on the balance of probability the bird was a strong candidate for Slender-billed Curlew and indeed showed many features indicative of this species such as a beak, 2 wings and a pair of legs..... Ok, bollocks to all that stuff, it was a Curlew, now where's that Elegant Tern file?
