Fendrod Lake

Iceland Gull 2nd cal-yr showing characters of L. g. kumlieni present from about 11.05 to 11.45 today, this is the paler of the two kumlieni present at this site. Also, 2 Sand Martins and a Chiffchaff.....real  birds!

When I think of the dark winged Iceland gulls we used to watch in Thurso harbour (that southern birders would call 'eastern' race Iceland gulls), you have to smile somewhat when these same 'southern' birders now call these birds 'kumlein's' when they find them on their own patch....especially as a bird of that depth of colouration (regardless of wear/ abrasion) wouldn't be given a second glance!
