Lavernock

An excellent morning at Lavernock with Graham and Wayne. A Vis Mig session from the coastal path at the first field produced a strong passage of Alba Wagtails. Other birds moving through included Wood Pigeon, Stock Dove, Chaffinch, Grey Wagtail, Starlings, Siskin, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Linnet, Goldfinch, Swallow, Golden Plover (3) and best of all as detailed below a Woodlark at 10:15. Picked up by Graham on call we watched it heading east before it appeared to land in the large stubble field along the coastal path. This assumption proved correct as it flew up calling from under my feet when we checked the field out. Then lost from view before myself and Graham re-found it in another stubble field (taking the path that leads from Cosmeston to Lavernock the stubble field on the right past the railway bridge). Here we managed some great views on the ground and it was still feeding well when we left at midday.

Well done both, good find. Saw and heard it in flight over the stubble fields either side of the path from Cosmeston to Lavernock, which was bit frustrating until eventually pinned down on the deck by GNS and good scope views obtained.
