Company Developing Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Plans Similar in Cardiff Bay.
"Following the public inquiry into the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon hydro
scheme last year - on which the Planning Inspectorate is due to report
and make its recommendations by March 2015 - the developers, Tidal
Lagoon Power, have now informed the Inspectorate about plans to develop a
further tidal lagoon in Cardiff Bay, with an application due in 2017.
The eastern wall of the lagoon would be only 2km from the
mouth of the River Usk, a Special Area of Conservation listed for its
salmon runs. The risks from this new technology to migratory fish, which
the developers say are minimal but which are still not clear, therefore
look set to come under increasing scrutiny."
