The last tree I stood by, as last winter, there were Chaffinches around me, not moving off, had nt seen a Hawfinch, only heard, but the fact is i had seen u walking back up the road so thought this area was clear till I saw Colin, hope u got your shots.

Chaffinches are so tame they will practically feed out your hand! These birds are extremely wary and will never come close you have to use some sort of camouflage.
I never got a chance of a shot, though I was excited that it was about to happen an very nearly did!

I know they are extremely wary but have seen good shots from people who have stood against tree trunks as I did, must have got very lucky !

Re: CliffGate
Cliff is probably referring to half tidy pictures by local birders that include Mr Tabor and better ones by Paul Denning - these are not the only ones. However the really good shots lately have been taken in the FoD especially by local togger Jeff Lack and others - I suggest Steve wants to take quality shots like these rather than the half tidy ones locally.

I haven't seen a good shot from Forest Ganol!

I was given a tip on how to do the FoD ones last winter, to arrive at the site just before daybreak & sit in the car but someone else had the same idea & was talking to a local walker with dog large as life & noisy - game over, all that way for nothing !! I suggest its time to draw a line under this subject now ?

Certainly no exceptional shots from FG to match the FoD
