Lousy photos but rather good birds

The 2 adults are camcorder stills taken at long range in poor light. The chick is a Ural Owl found by the roadside with no sign of the parents. Probably just as well as the guy climbing up to another nest to ring the young was togged up like a fireman going into a burning building and had another bloke standing behind with a padded shield on a long pole to fend off any attack. The female owl did not attack on the occasion but just sat and glowered at him ( as per photo).

Also saw Hawk, Pygmy & Tengmalms thus completing the 'big five' Arctic Owls. - The Swedes 5 the Turnips 0.

Its a very good Lemming year so we may get some Owls next autumn.

Sounds like/looks like you had a damned good trip, any chance of bringing the footage and,or photos up the pub?

I think Snowy Owls would feel a tad aggrieved by not being classed as one of the "big arctic owls" Maurice....
Lovely pics of wonderful birds nonetheless.

You are right Seymour. I'd forgotten that one. Did also see Eagle and Short-eared however. Other highlight was pair of Gyrs around an eyrie.

Let me know when you next meet. Did not take many photos myself but should get access to some others soon as there were specialist snappers on the trip.
