Train fares to Portsmouth and return from Plymouth.

I have just had an interesting conversation with Great Western rail (should read muppets) if we book tickets individually online the cost to Portsmouth harbour is £8.00 pp, if on the other hand we book over the phone we qualify for a group discount and it works out at £35.50 pp (???????),also if we book the return from Plymouth -online its £19.50pp,using the excellent group discount it works out at £62.74pp, they have to be some of the best discount deals I have come across, what a bloomin' jocular outfit.

Tickets online will have to be booked individually as there is no option for multiple purchases.

The best train time leaves Cardiff at 11:30,arriving at Pompey harbour at 14:55, the return leaves Plymouth at 18:25 arriving Cardiff 21:44.

Any thoughts.

My comment is "what a bloody farce" - I never ceased to be amazed by rail fares - the whole system is a joke. Your timings look good Slap so I will be booking mine online as suggested on the trains you suggest. These look to allow plenty of time for check-in and on return, off-loading. Thanks for getting the info.

Don't be misled by the name - Portsmouth Harbour Train Station is a good 30 min+ walk from the Ferry Port, so you will need to jump in a taxi.

Plymouth is a taxi ride also
