Whilst unsuccessfully trying to photograph Sedge Warblers from the "ride" in the reeds running from the new hide to the edge of the lake I heard a large splash in the shallows followed by a brief sighting of a tail disappearing under the water amongst the lily pads.
Next thing after some activity a pair of otters surfaced from under the timber boat landing on to the edge of the path not 25' from me and stayed for about 20 secs before slinking back into the water, happy days !!
They were so close that the above images are uncropped, where's a zoom lens when you need it.

Great shots Jeff! Too close or too far. We can't win!
too light, too dark, the list goes on.
All 3 are very nice mate.
SUPERB!!!!!!!
Stonking shots Jeff!
FANTASTIC - I'd rather be close up that too far away - worth staking out the area if they are this tame.
Absolutely fabulous Jeff, putting the time in reaps its rewards, you deserve that bit of luck - well done mate !
Some of the best otter shots I have seen on the web, what a privilege to get so close and get some cracking shots as well, I bet you’re well pleased.
Well said Camking. I sense the Einstein has found a suitable home for 2014.
not bad jeff lol (jealous)
In this series of shots I'm thinking that the Wader is probably being chased by several members of the Village People?
