Scilly 1985

All,this flap about the Bobolink at Eggy (which incidentally I missed due to my mobile not being switched on Doh!) has recalled the time of the sighting of my first UK Bobolink on the dear Old Isles of Scilly in 1985.
To put Glamorgan into some context / perspective the roll call on those hallowed Islands from 12th to 19th October 1985 was:
Yellow rumped Warbler
Rose breasted Grosbeak
Yellow billed Cuckoo
Black billed Cuckoo
Rustic Bunting
BOBOLINK
Booted Warbler
Red eyed Vireo
Little bunting

Ah yes I remember it well!! One of the best week's birding ever.

Rich, I was with you that week (plus a couple days afterwards) and you can add Parula Warbler and Bee-eater to that list!

Couldn't make that week because of work. I still need two species on that list [3&5]. A great week's birding for some. Still, can't see them all now can we!!!!!

I remember getting off the Sickonian and seeing the notice board and thinking 'shit!!! the Scillies really are the bollocks".
If I recall I shared a lift with Phil Dean in his brand new shinny Colt Starion, what a motor! what a week.
Staying in a tent with Rich Brockway and Seymour Porn.

Did'nt we have AGP too?

Remember it well. There was also Boblink in 1983. The more senior scilly regulars will also recall 1973 when after a few lean years there was Black & White Warbler, Yellow Bellied Sapsucker and Scarlet Tanager. Those were the first American landbirds for me.

What about the unidentified pterosaur you saw there in your youth Maurice?!

Think it had better remain unidentified. Just realised it was 1975 on Scilly not 1973.
